Hurtigruten

Join us when the sunlight rejuvenates life along the coastline in springtime or discover the perpetual daylight of Norway’s summer above the Arctic Circle. As the sun sinks lower towards the horizon we sail into the vibrant colours of autumn before winter once again casts its magical spell on the landscape bringing with it a choice of incredible activities and the opportunity to go in search of the magical Northern Lights.

The Fleet

Although all of Hurtigruten’s 11 Norwegian coastal ships vary in size, age, style and design, they all provide the same intimate travel experience with their own informal Hurtigruten atmosphere. All boast a wide range of comfortable cabins and spacious lounges providing panoramic views of some of the world’s most spectacular scenery. Expedition ship, MS Fram, designed for sailing in polar waters, is built to the highest safety standards and is the perfect size for optimum nautical manoeuverability and guests’ comfort. The interior offers numerous lounges in which to relax as well as well-equipped gym and on-deck Jacuzzis.

Norwegian Coastal Voyage

Known as the “World’s Most Beautiful Voyage” the Norwegian Coastal cruise is the best way to experience the authentic Norway. The Hurtigruten ships sail along the coastline, deeper into the heart of this spectacular landscape than anyone else. They take in the fjords, waterways and ports that other ships can’t reach. In Norway, in the Northern area beyond the Arctic Circle, during midsummer, 24-hour sunlit days occur. For this reason Norway has always been known as “the Land of the Midnight Sun”. In the winter, the sun is low on the horizon and, north of the Arctic Circle, can even be below the horizon for some weeks. Join us in hunting the Northern Lights, a major element of the winter journey. This natural phenomenon creates beautiful shades of light. Sailing with Hurtigruten will provide the best possibilities to experience the magic colour show from light green to dark purple flickering across the Arctic sky.

Polar Expeditions

Arctic: Spitsbergen, Iceland and Greenland
Spitsbergen, the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, is located in the Arctic Ocean, halfway between Norway and the North Pole where the warmer currents of the Gulf Stream meet the cold air and water from the north. Here during the Northern Hemisphere summer, Hurtigruten offers a spectacular range of unforgettable adventures on its expedition ship MS Fram. Its Polarcirkel boats get up close to the nature and wildlife in this the Realm of the Polar bear. Other Arctic expeditions include Greenland, the world’s largest island, and Reykjavik, Iceland.

Antarctic
In the southern hemisphere summer the MS Fram offers a range of 10 to 19-day expeditions in the Antarctic taking in the Falklands and South Georgia.

Europe
In between the Polar summers the MS Fram migrates towards the coasts and waterways of Europe. These include the ports of Helsinki, Tallinn and St Petersburg in the Baltic as well as the British Isles, France, Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
