Mozambique is possibly one of the most beautiful, yet contrasting countries in the world. It has natural resources, beaches that stretch on as far as the eye can see, and lagoons and islands that will take your breath away. We’ve broken down each cruise destination in Mozambique with a little bit about the ship you’ll be travelling on. Some of the destinations in Mozambique include some, or all of the following: Maputo, the Portuguese Island, and Inhambane on board the MSC Opera.
Maputo is the capital city of Mozambique. Driving through the city can be a bit of a nightmare, especially if you catch it in rush hour. Luckily you shouldn’t be doing too much driving as you’ll be in the harbour and ready to explore the nearby sites and points of interest with ease. With a number of excursion packages to choose from at an extra fee, you have the opportunity to experience any side of Maputo you wish. Take in the bustling markets of the city, or get out of the city in a 4x4 and explore the fantastic Mozambican beaches on the outskirts.
2. Portuguese Island
An uninhabited nature reserve, the Portuguese Island has a charm, natural beauty and a sense of perfect seclusion you can only imagine. That is until you get there of course! Spend the few days available, lazing on the pristine white sandy beaches, soaking up the sun and enjoying the relaxation of perfect seclusion on this uninhabited island. Explore the lagoons, safe swimming beaches, mangroves or just a short trip away is Inhaca, where you can re-join civilisation and have a drink or two in one of the bars and restaurants.
Visiting Inhambane as a destination on your cruise will offer a day filled with lush, tropical beaches and an amalgamation of the historic and Mozambican-modern. Inhambane is located about 470km north of Maputo, and offers something for any traveller to sink their teeth into. Explore the markets, museums or mosques, or take a trip to Tofo which offers fantastic water sports. If you’d prefer to sit and soak up the ambience of the town, then simply sit back and relax at one of the waterside restaurants and watch the dhows pass you by.
4. MSC Opera
The MSC Opera is the perfect contrast of old and new. On-board, you’ll experience a true sense of modern comforts and luxurious classiness of times gone by. Take in a gym class, join the kids in the pool and take in a game of putt-putt. As the sun sets, join us in the dining hall for a magnificent seven course meal and a show in the Teatro dell' Opera, have a drink in one of the bars, try your hand at a little gambling in the casino, or party the night away at our futuristic style Disco.
For the cruise holiday of a lifetime, contact Cruiseabout and visit the beautiful and rustic Mozambique islands and coastline. Whether on board or on shore, there is something for everyone to enjoy, savour and remember!
