3 Great Cruise lines for Couples

Posted February 16th, 2016

Cruising and romance goes hand in hand, especially if you look at any of the cruise line’s brochures or adverts in magazines – photos of couples walking on the deck at sunset, or enjoying breakfast on their private verandah and seeding time alone on a deserted beach on a shore excursion.

Advertisements and brochures notwithstanding, however, cruising can definitely be one of the most romantic holiday options, particularly when you look at the value that a cruising holiday includes – all meals and a variety of entertainment included in your cruise, plus all the different options of speciality dining and exclusive events available on some vessels. The right choice of ship goes a very long way in making a cruising holiday the dream breakaway with your loved one that it can be, because you don’t want to take pictures of the amazing sunset with half of the ship next to you or your romantic dinner for 2 spoilt by queues and whiny kids in the buffet restaurant.

We’ve listed 3 of our favourite cruise lines for couples, using criteria that are generally romantic, whether your idea of romance might be fine dining and all out pampering or all night partying. Our short list of cruise lines includes ships with cozy nooks and date-night venues, and almost-private open-deck spaces for relaxing by day and star gazing by night. Here are a few of our favourite cruise lines for celebrating or rekindling romance with your loved one.

Oceania’s O-Class ships are slightly larger than their smaller fleet of ships and offer a bit more variety, whilst still maintaining an intimate feel. With various upper class restaurants, onboard culinary centre and evening theatre and dance, there are plenty of things for couples to do together. Some of the more luxurious suites on these ships include a complimentary bottle of champagne, unlimited access to Canyon Ranch SpaClub's private spa terrace, a Bulgari gift set and toiletries and cashmere lap blankets for late evenings stargazing on your balcony. To top it off, all suites feature beautiful views and indoor and outdoor whirlpool spas to share with your loved one. Romantic activities include couples massages, hands-on cooking classes and wine tasting. There are also four complimentary specialty restaurants onboard, giving couples a lot of opportunity for romantic dinners out and if you prefer, butlers can serve your meal course by course when you stay in selected suites.

Norweigan Cruise line

Norwegian's "Freestyle Dining" philosophy where passengers can dine without the hassle of assigned times and tablemates at a variety of restaurants is perfectly suited to table-for-two cruisers. Their ships’ Haven suites are perfect for romantic getaways and are located in a private-access area of the ship. These suites offer a variety of special perks, including access to a fabulous Asian-inspired pool area (complete with Balinese bed and hot tub) to suite-holders-only breakfast and lunch in either Cagney's Steakhouse or Moderno Churrascaria. The suites feature separate bed rooms and living areas, butler service and in-room hot tubs. Speciality dining venues include Cagney's, the dedicated steakhouse, and Le Bistro, a French eatery; for drinks, Cagney's adjacent lounge, located at the top of the ship, is away from the crowds.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity's newest ships are sophisticated and hip, and cater to couples on adult getaways, rather than family holidays. Their ships have plenty of onboard spaces tailor-made for couples, like wine bars to a variety of specialty dining venues, double pool loungers and top-deck lawns perfect for picnicking. Suites onboard range in size from 300 to 1,636 square feet, with amenities such as separate living room/dining room areas, baby grand pianos, whirlpool tubs and large balconies. Celebrity's AquaClass cabins are perfect for those who enjoy the spa experience creating an oasis of calm on the bustling ships with massaging showerheads, complimentary spa-oriented bath and body products, and upgraded bed linens. Plus, couples can seek further R&R with complimentary use of the AquaSpa Relaxation Room and Persian Garden and exclusive specialty restaurant, Blu. 85% of all cabins on board feature private balconies and the Lawn Club, a real grass lawn on the ships’ top decks is perfect for a romantic picnic. The adults only solarium, wine and martini bars all provide great romantic options for couples. Speciality dining venues include Murano, one of the best Romantic restaurants at sea and Tuscan Grille, an Italian steakhouse with a wine country feel.
