Posted March 16th, 2015

What makes a destination really worth visiting? Is it the delicious cuisine, the unique cultures, the amazing history and heritage or simply a place of immense beauty that will really help you feel like you‘ve escaped from your everyday surroundings?

Whatever your reasons for wanting to visit a global destination, we strongly recommend Barcelona as one of the places you need to visit, ASAP! In fact, if it isn‘t on your top-ten list of destinations yet, it certainly should be! Especially since it is in the Mediterranean as well.

1.Why you‘ll fall in love with Barcelona

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and is ideally situated in the north east corner of this fascinating country. The city is right on the beach with the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea as its back drop. The citys origins are steeped in mythological history dating back to the time of Hercules; however others say the city was founded in the 4th century AD.

You can draw your own conclusions as you visit the fascinating architectural sites and historical buildings that this city is so proud of. There is a different story to hear around every corner.

2.Barcelona - the attractions!

When wandering around the city, you‘ll notice that there are a number of beautiful, yet extremely odd looking buildings and structures. There is a good chance that these are from the brilliant architectural mind of Antoni Gaudi, a Spanish Catalan architect who died in the early 20th century. Some of his most famous buildings and structures include Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera.

Make sure you take a wander around the Teatre Grec which is a large park area with artistic offerings on display for all to admire. And when you‘re done enjoying the beautiful lush green grass and fantastic artwork in the park, you should head over to the Fundació Joan Miró where hundreds of fascinating paintings are on display.

You may also want to head on over to the Raval, which is known for its literary inspiration for so many writers and novelists, and is filled with interesting shops, magnificent restaurants, and offers an overall, unique cultural experience.

3.Every Day Can Be Paella & Sangria Day!

What could be better than sitting under an awning of trees on the side-walks of Barcelona? After a long day on a Mediterranean beach, you‘ll love the coolness of the shade which feels refreshing and calming, as you sip on a delicious cocktail of Sangria or maybe a little Vermouth. The city night life slowly begins to liven up as the sun dips behind the historic buildings. Before you can blink again, you smell the heavenly scent of your fresh seafood Paella arriving at your table.

Famous Spanish Culinary delights include dishes like seafood Paella and various Tapas. These are bite sized portions, allowing everyone at the table to have a little bit of everything. Tapas are a common form of dining in Barcelona and are often accompanied by some delicious Vermouth.

Barcelona is a unique and special place, full of colour, culture, architecture and some of the most delicious food you‘ll taste anywhere in the Mediterranean and even the world. This is a destination you may seriously want to consider putting onto your top-ten list of places to visit. Whatever makes a destination worth visiting for you, we think Barcelona definitely ticks all of the boxes!
