For the love of travel: our favourite cruises in February

February is the month of love, and we love all things travel. From the Jo’burg Travel Expo, to Valentine’s Day, the Rio Carnival and the Dubai Jazz Festival, all of our favourite things seem to be crammed into one exciting month of love.

You may not be able to fit all the excitement of February into your busy schedule, but you can combine travel and love with great entertainment and a trip to magical Dubai in an unforgettable five or seven night cruise.

1.The destinations

Dubai is a land of contrasts, bringing glamour and opulence to the desert. You’ll find high-end shopping, jaw-dropping architecture, man-made islands, larger than life amusement parks and vibrant nightlife just waiting to be explored. Visit the Mall of Dubai – the largest mall in the world – filled with surprises like a three storey aquarium! Next to the mall is the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. You can take an elevator up to 452m, and if you book in advance you’ll receive a substantial discount.

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and it is located on an island in the Persian Gulf. Visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – a spectacular structure that can accommodate more than 40 000 worshippers at the same time and houses the largest carpet in the world. More than 1200 women hand knotted the carpet over 2 years. Have ‘lunch with a view’ at the Etihad towers, spend some time at Ferrari World, the Ferrari-themed amusement park, or marvel at the lavishness of the Emirates Palace Hotel where you can have real gold leaf sprinkles on your cappuccino.

Muscat, the capital of Oman, is a great place to see what the Middle East is about. Visit the Grand Sultan Qaboos Mosque with its architectural influences from all over the world, including a German-designed 14-metre-tall chandelier in the main prayer hall. Go for a massage at the Shangri-La day spa, then head to the Ritz Carlton Al Bustan Palace Hotel for afternoon tea.

Khor Fakkan is a photogenic little coastal town. Explore the ruins of a 100 year old fort, snap some shots of the Al Wurrayah Falls, or admire the beautiful beaches.

Khasab is a beautiful desert town with fantastic beaches and cliffs. Visit the museum in Khasab Castle, explore the beautiful palm groves, or the local handcraft shops.

2.The cruise lines that take you there

Taking you to these magical destinations in absolute comfort and luxury are cruise lines Costa, MSC, and Royal Caribbean. On board you’ll have your choice of fine dining or casual restaurants, unlimited entertainment and the beauty of the ocean stretching out all around you. You will find, when you cruise, that the journey can be just as exciting as the destination – especially when you have so many on-board activities to choose from. Think rock climbing, ice skating, mini golf and Vegas style casinos.

With February around the corner, now would be a great time to book your cruise to Dubai, the contrasts await! Talk to one of our expert travel consultants today and they will help you choose the best cruise for you.
